Stressors eg watching the news!

Biggest contributors to daily stress is watching, reading or listening to news

Increase positive emotional response by reading positive news

(TRFW News) Emotional responses play an important role in our stress levels says Judy Moskowitz, PhD, UCSF Osher Center researcher. A research project completed by Moskowitz tested positive emotional skill building in teens manage stress. (3)

The skills taught were noticing positive events, amplifying them, being grateful, practicing mindfulness and positive reappraisal, noting personal strengths, setting attainable goals, and performing acts of kindness.  These skills increased positive emotional responses.  It was noted that these positive emotions helped the teens cope with stress.  This study encouraged that the importance of creating more space in our lives for positive emotions to create emotional balance. (3)

As a therapist, I often describe human emotions in terms of a ladder.  Our baseline is our normal level of functioning when our life is emotionally balanced.  When experiencing stressful events, we climb the ladder moving closer to our crisis response.  The further we get up the ladder, the longer it takes us to return to our baseline.  When facing traumatic or stressful life events it is important to increase positive emotions and coping techniques at the same frequency to maintain balance and closeness to our baseline.

Biggest contributors to daily stress is watching, reading or listening to news

A national survey completed by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health reports news media may be partly to blame for the stress people are feeling these days.  (1)

Out of 2,500 American’s that participated in the study, 1 in 4 reported that they had experiences a “great deal” of stress in the prior month.  Out of these stressed-out people, one of the biggest contributors to their daily stress was watching, reading or listening to the news.  (1)

Since then, McNaughton-Cassill and other researchers have done several studies showing the emotional response that news coverage can produce.  The biggest effect noted results when traumatic events are covered in a sensational way.  This is hard to avoid when reading, listening, or watching the news these days.  McNaughton-Cassill says, “There is so much more news available, and so many different channels that are competing, that they’re trying harder to be sensational.” (1)

The study also found that “people who exposed themselves to six or more hours of media daily actually reported more acute stress symptoms than did people who were directly exposed” says professor Alison Holman of the University of California, Irvine. (1,2) Holman reports that one reason for this reaction could be that news outlets “take a clip of images and they repeat that same clip over and over and over as they’re talking about what happened.” (1)

Increase positive emotions by reading or watching positive news

Consumer can take steps to protect themselves by avoiding bingeing on news  after traumatic events happen in the world.   Absorbing every detail about a negative event does not aid in our survival. (1) It stresses us out!  Instead spend more time using skills that increase positive emotional responses and reading positive news sources, such as The Raw Food World News.

Spice away depression

Spicing up your cuisine could help brighten your mood

(TRFW News) Just 8% of people in Mexico experience depression.  This makes Mexico one of the counties that have the world’s lowest incidences of depression. Other countries that join Mexico are China and India. (1)

Countries with high poverty rates experience low rates of depression

According to a study published by the Mexican Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy, 53.5 million Mexican’s were living under the poverty line in 2012.  This was half a million more than in 2010.  It was estimated that another 40 percent are at risk of crossing this line. (2) It is estimated that 29.8 percent of people in India live below the line of poverty. (6) The United States poverty rate is about 15 percent of the population. (7)

American’s living in poverty are more likely to struggle with health problems and depression.  Gallup indicates that 31 percent of Americans in poverty say they have been diagnosed with depression as opposed to the 15.8 percent of Americans diagnosed who do not live in poverty. (3)

Chili and turmeric help fight depression

Many cultures around the globe have been enjoying and cultivating hot spices for years.  Chilies, hot peppers, and other spices were used initially for medicinal purposes.  They are integral components of Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African cuisines.  The most common spice used world wide is the chili pepper.  Currently China, Turkey, Nigeria, Spain and Mexico are the largest producers of chili peppers.  (4)

Chili peppers contain Capsaicin, an odorless and flavorless chemical that has been shown to combat health issues such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, joint pain, depression and digestion problems. (4)

Turmeric also known as curcumin has been shown to be another safe and effective way of managing depression.  A research project performed at the Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India studied the impact of turmeric given to patients already diagnosed with major depressive disorder.  The study reported that Curcumin and Prozac were equivalent in their effectiveness of treating depression.  Curcumin comes without side effects of suicidal ideation or other psychotic disorders.  There are also a wide range of other benefits to consuming curcumin such as it’s neuroprotective properties that in some cases help restore brain functioning.  (5)

Spice up your life and your menu to increase feelings of wellness

Eating more spices such as chilies and turmeric may help American’s increase feelings of positive well-being and combat depression.  It is time for American’s to start spicing up our menu’s and when times are difficult, stress levels are high and emotions are low seek out cuisines that incorporate these mood boosting spices.

No vaccination – by professionals

My Journey Leaving the Anti Vaccination Movement

334642153_955f53fdec_z

I bet you freaked out just a little bit when you read the title right? Megan? Leaving the anti-vaccination movement? Sorry to disappoint you. Someone would have to prove to me that God does not exist, I would have to switch religions, and someone would have to conduct a study showing vaccines are safe, effective, and do not have adverse reactions. To be perfectly honest though, I really don’t like these labels. I don’t vaccinate, but I respect your right to do otherwise. Is there a pro-parental rights movement? If so, sign me up for that one.

Needless to say there’s a new blogger on the scene who’s written a fairly popular post about why she left the anti-vaccination movement. Surprisingly, I found her tone of voice refreshing. She seems nice and she’s super cute too. She’s wearing a red dress on her home page and it made me want to go out and get a hot picture of myself in a red dress too. Alas’ I am a mom and the last time I wore a red dress was a Christmas nightgown I got from my Grandma when I was seven. She’s dead and so is that nightgown.

Regardless, I’d really like to be her friend (I wonder if she has friends who don’t vaccinate). However, I think all friendships should start off on the right foot, which is why I feel like we need to talk about this post.

As a mother, I haven’t given vaccinations to thousands of children, let alone my own. My mom is a nurse. My sister is an educator who is rocking the “stay at home mama movement” like me. My other sister is a chiropractor with a degree in biology. My husband is a physician with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. I just have a law degree. Nothing special. Just a little something I picked up to help me read, write, research, and think critically. Although my mom vaccinated us on what was a much smaller schedule when I was younger, she regrets that decision and refuses to give vaccinations now.

To be perfectly honest, no one in our family vaccinates. We can’t…now that we know what we know.

I have no idea what pediatric nurse practitioners learn in school. What I do know is that physicians learn next to nothing about vaccines. They are told to give them and shown a picture of a child in an iron lung or a kid with measles in a third-world country. They take immunology of course, but that is not the same as vaccinology. Despite their training, doctors (and scientists) know very little about the immune system which is why there is no medical cure for any chronic autoimmune disease. This should comfort us all.

Pediatricians of course, learn how to give vaccinations. They have to order these expensive vaccines with expiration dates and if you don’t vaccinate, they’re out money…lots and lots of money. They’re also out state excise taxes and insurance reimbursements. They are not trained to acknowledge or recognize vaccine injuries nor could they give you any drug to cure your child should they experience an adverse reaction. They didn’t learn any of this in their immunology class nor did they learn how any of the ingredients vaccines contain affect the immune system. To your surprise, they didn’t pour through the clinical trials or post-licensure studies. Very few have even read the package inserts because vaccines are presumed safe right?

Nurses are excellent at giving vaccinations. Seriously, they have a great technique (minus that one nurse who accidentally permanently injured my mom’s shoulder with a flu shot jab). They know how to store, prepare, and administer them. Most of the time this is done correctly, but I have never met a nurse who has had more training on vaccinations than a physician. Have you?

In Kid Nurse’s post she basically states that she took a pro-vaccine stance because there was no evidence to support that vaccines cause autism or shattered immune systems, because the small pox vaccine eradicated small pox, because a measles outbreak occurred in her area, she has a great uncle who is in a wheelchair because of polio, and she watched a 1-month old baby fight for its life from pertussis.

All of these are perfectly valid emotional reasons not to vaccinate. However, I think if you’re going to get on your camel and make a journey to the “other side, “of the desert, you should probably do so on accurate assumption. And, since I miss taking tests, let’s do this true/false style:

Small pox was eradicated by the vaccine. False. Small pox had greatly declined before the vaccine, increased after the vaccine in westernized countries, and was effectively eradicated in third-world countries due to the surveillance and containment quarantine program. The small pox vaccine was actually flawed, deadly, and ineffective, killing many and inflicting even more with serious adverse reactions. Small pox eventually exterminated itself when people had access to clean water, good food, clean living conditions, and proper hygiene. (For a very well-referenced book on the history of small pox, read this. Check out the package insert for the small pox vaccine here.)

Immunizations and vaccinations are interchangeable terms. False. Guys, we have got to stop throwing around the terms “immunization” and vaccination as if they’re synonymous. Immunization is the process by which a person becomes immune to a disease. Vaccination does not guarantee immunity and any immunity given is temporary.

There is supposedly no “causal” connection between vaccines and autism.  True. There’s just a whole bunch of studies where children who were vaccinated got autism; a vaccine package insert that listed autism as a potential adverse reaction; court cases won by children who developed autism post-vaccination; studies that link seizures, brain encephalopathy, and gut disorders to vaccines and studies that link seizures, gut disorders, and brain encephalopathy to autism; a vaccine removed from the market because it caused brain damage in children (i.e. autism & DPT), studies on the ingredients in vaccines that cause autism, and a whole bunch of empirical data that is super important unless…it pertains to autism.

The best way to protect a baby from pertussis is to vaccinate. False. Many people decide to vaccinate after they see a child injured from pertussis. Many people decide not to vaccinate because they have seen a child injured from the pertussis vaccine. These are both emotional arguments. The truth of the matter is that babies would be protected from many diseases if mothers acquired lifetime immunity via natural exposure and subsequently passed protective antibodies to their babies. Vaccines destroy this passive immunity and put our infants at risk. However, since neither the vaccine nor pertussis give lifetime immunity we now give ineffective, untested, dangerous, “Category C” Tdap vaccines to pregnant women.

That aside, as reported in 2012 by every major news outlet and confirmed by the CDC, the Dtap vaccine is ineffective and wanes over time which is why we see pertussis outbreaks occurring in almost exclusively vaccinated populations, why those vaccinated are becoming asymptomatic carriers for the disease, and why “the number of reported pertussis cases have been steadily increasing since the 1980s.” Other news sources have reported that the pertussis bacteria is becoming resistant to the vaccine and that B. parapertussis might actually be to blame for some of the outbreaks. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, even after five doses of Dtap a person’s chance of acquiring pertussis increases by 42% each year.

So, a vaccine gives us temporary (if any) immunity, with junk ingredients, and a chance of adverse reactions like eczema, bronchitis, respiratory infections, encephalopathy, cough (which I find ironic), and SIDS. No thanks. There are better way to protect ourselves and our children from pertussis.

Polio is scary. False…unless you actually had polio. Believe it or not, polio is asymptomatic in 95% of people who actually get it; and prior to polio vaccine licensure, anything with paralysis lasting longer than 24 hours would have yielded a polio diagnosis. Aseptic and viral meningitis, Coxsackie virus, hand foot mouth, transverse myelitis, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Syphilis, DDT, arsenic, and lead poisoning etc. were all diagnosed as polio prior to the vaccine. Seriously, you could play dead and get a polio diagnosis.

After vaccine licensure, diagnostic criteria changed to make the vaccine look more effective. The 220, 365 cases of non-paralytic polio that occurred between 1960 and 1992 were now labeled “aseptic meningitis.” This is just one of many examples. Not to mention that the only cases of polio recorded between 1973 and 2000 were caused by the vaccine.  So we should all ask ourselves, did our dear friend, neighbor, or relative with polio actually have polio? If they did have polio, was it caused by the vaccine? Are they in a wheel-chair? If so, was it due to the barbaric methods used by the medical profession to treat polio? While we’re at it, does our dear friend, neighbor, or relative have cancer? If so, was it caused by the polio vaccine?

True/false aside, here are some really good reasons to leave the “anti-vaccination movement:”
Double-blind, inert/saline placebo-controlled clinical trials show vaccines are safe. None have been done to date.

Studies show that vaccinated children are healthier than unvaccinated children. No large-scale study in the United States has been done to date.

Studies show vaccines do not have adverse reactions. Currently, all vaccines have possible adverse reactions.

Studies show vaccines do not cause any health conditions, including the ones they’re designed to prevent.

All vaccines can and have caused the very diseases they’re designed to prevent.
Studies show the herd immunity applies to vaccinations. It’s been presumed that herd immunity applies to vaccines.

Studies show vaccines actually prevent disease. Currently, not a single study to date has proven this. This hypothesis is dependent upon the assumption that every single person would have gotten the disease if they weren’t vaccinated and that vaccinations are the only way to prevent disease.

Vaccines gives lifetime immunity. Currently, not a single vaccine offers lifetime immunity.

And my favorite…science proves vaccines do a better job at preventing disease than my God-given immune system. If you don’t believe in God, “studies show biology missed something when it gave every man and animal on the planet an immune system.”

Clearly, I’m not taking a journey any time soon. Vaccines or not, I hope we can be friends. I’ve found this red dress I’m just dying to try on.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield Exposes MMR Vaccine Fraud

In this video, Dr. Andrew Wakefield reveals that in the recent “measles outbreak” in Wales earlier this year, records now show there was only one single laboratory confirmed case of measles in March, down from three cases in February.

He also shows proof that he was not the first scientist to show the link between autism and the MMR vaccine, as has been widely reported. In fact, there were so many reported cases of the MMR vaccine being linked to autism prior to 1998, that Dr. Wakefield’s article published in the Lancet was “late” in reporting what was already widely known.

Dr. Wakefield also sets the record straight on the recent N.Y. Times article that praised Dr. Maurice Hilleman, the pioneer vaccine researcher who worked for Merck, regarding the mumps vaccine. (See our earlier story on Dr. Hilleman and the polio vaccine which spread cancer here.) The MMR vaccine, according to statistics provided by the US CDC and British Health Authorities, increases the risk of infertility and testicular cancer more than any other vaccine.

Starting at 10:44 in the video, Dr. Wakefield reveals the fraud and corruption behind the MMR vaccine that allowed it to gain such a wide market in the U.S. and around the world. It will shock you!

CDC’s Vaccine Safety Research is Exposed as Flawed and Falsified in Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journal

Substantial Scientific Evidence Exists that Vaccine Ingredient is a Developmental Neurotoxin

Watchung, NJ, June 12, 2014
by PRNewswire

Just months after U.S. Congressman Bill Posey compared the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s vaccine safety studies to the SEC’s Bernie Madoff scandal, malfeasance in the CDC’s studies of thimerosal-containing vaccines has, for the first time, been documented in peer-reviewed scientific literature. While the CDC states on its website that “low doses of thimerosal in vaccines do not cause harm, and are only associated with minor local injection site reactions like redness and swelling at the injection site,” the journal BioMed Research International now provides direct evidence that the CDC’s safety assurances about the mercury-containing preservative are not fact-based, according to the article’s lead author, Brian Hooker, PhD.

The paper opens by citing over 165 studies that have found Thimerosal to be harmful, including 16 studies that had reported outcomes in human infants and children of death, acrodynia, poisoning, allergic reaction, malformations, auto-immune reaction, Well’s syndrome, developmental delay and neurodevelopmental disorders including tics, speech delay, language delay, ADHD and autism. These findings by multiple independent research groups over the past 75+ years have consistently found thimerosal to be harmful. “Substantial scientific evidence exists and has existed for many years that the vaccine ingredient thimerosal is a developmental neurotoxin” says George Lucier, former Associate Director of the National Toxicology Program.

Studies showing harm from thimerosal sharply contradict published outcomes of six CDC coauthored and sponsored papers – the very studies that CDC relies upon to declare that thimerosal is “safe” for use in infant and maternal vaccines. Dr. Hooker, biochemist and vaccine industry watchdog, said of the six CDC studies, “Each of these papers is fatally flawed from a statistics standpoint and several of the papers represent issues of scientific malfeasance.  For example, important data showing a relationship between thimerosal exposure and autism are withheld from three of the publications (Price et al. 2010, Verstraeten et al. 2003 and Madsen et al. 2003).  This type of cherry-picking of data by the CDC in order to change the results of important research studies to support flawed and dangerous vaccination policies should not be tolerated.”

Dr. Boyd Haley, international expert in mercury toxicity and a co-author of the recently published paper said “There is no doubt that authorities in the CDC have initiated and participated in a cover-up of vaccine-induced damage from thimerosal to our children—-and this I consider criminal.” The paper, “Methodological Issues and Evidence of Malfeasance in Research Purporting to Show Thimerosal in Vaccines is Safe,” was published on June 6 and contains eight pages of evidence that the CDC has had knowledge of the vaccine preservative’s neurological risks, yet continues to cover them up.

The paper concludes, “five of the publications examined in this review were directly commissioned by the CDC, raising the possible issue of conflict of interests or research bias, since vaccine promotion is a central mission of the CDC. Conceivably, if serious neurological disorders are found to be related to Thimerosal in vaccines, such findings could possibly be viewed as damaging to the vaccine program.”

Dr. Hooker has submitted over 100 FOIA requests to the CDC over the past 10 years and has amassed thousands of pages of documents showing malfeasance in the CDC’s vaccine safety program.  Hooker revealed that one CDC document quoted a top official instructing CDC employees to “Review all correspondences and documents to see if there is ‘foreseeable harm’ to the agency if they were released” so the documents could be redacted by CDC attorneys prior to release.

Barry Segal, founder of the Focus Autism Foundation and former entrepreneur whose company sales peaked near $2 billion said, “We are in the process of exposing what may be the biggest federal scandal ever with immense damage to our economy and our people, especially our children who are the future of our country. Their health has been compromised by mercury in vaccines. We need Congress to take action now. Thimerosal must be banned.”

A more effective vaccine preservative “2PE” has replaced thimerosal in many other vaccines and possesses a much better safety profile according to Dr. Hooker.

mumps vaccine failure Mumps Vaccine Proves Ineffective as Outbreaks Among Fully Vaccinated Increase

By Alliance for Natural Health

But instead of acknowledging the vaccine’s problems, the CDC and mainstream media blame people who don’t vaccinate. Action Alert!

Mumps is a nasty virus—it can cause fever, headache, and painfully swollen glands. In serious cases, it can causemeningitis, deafness, and even testicular inflammation. Mumps is also easily spread through mucus: if an infected person sneezes, coughs, or even talks, they can pass it on.

For these and other reasons, most Americans are vaccinated against mumps through the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) shot, which is also one of the more dangerous vaccinations. But in the early 2000s, researchers began to notice an alarming pattern: those vaccinated against mumps were still becoming ill with it—at alarming rates.

This worrisome trend is accelerating: in April 2014, the New Jersey Department of Health warned of an outbreak of mumps at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Eight cases of mumps were confirmed—yet all of those infected had been fully vaccinated with two documented doses of the MMR shot.

What’s going on here? Is the vaccine losing its efficacy—or was it never effective in the first place? There are a number of explanations:

  • The effectiveness of the MMR vaccine in preventing mumps is—according to Dr. William Schaffer, a pro-vaccine researcher at Vanderbilt University—“not so good.” A CDC study of a 2009–2010 mumps outbreak in the northeastern US found that a full 77% of those sickened in 2009 outbreak had been vaccinated.
  • The effectiveness of the mumps vaccine depends heavily on the strain contracted. According to a 2008 FDA study, the vaccine is “0 to 33%” effective on the Rubini strain. Even so, this study, like other government studies, blamed outbreaks on low vaccination rates instead of on low vaccine effectiveness.
  • A whistleblower case unsealed in 2012 suggests that Merck, the producer of the MMR vaccine, might have misrepresented the results of research on the vaccine’s efficacy from the start. The case, initiated by a pair of former Merck researchers, claims that Merck manipulated the results of clinical trials in order to keep its exclusive right to manufacture the vaccine. By claiming a fabricated 95% effectiveness rate, Merck allegedly defrauded the US government, causing it to buy 4 million doses of “mislabeled and misbranded” MMRs vaccines. The suit also claims this helped spark two major mumps outbreaks, and that “the ultimate victims here are the millions of children who every year are being injected with a mumps vaccine that is not providing them with an adequate level of protection.”

The Justice Department refused to pursue the case.

Conventional medicine openly acknowledges the dangers of the MMR vaccine, yet still decrees that its benefits outweigh its risks. When the evidence clearly dictates that there is less benefit to the mumps vaccine than thought, the usual arguments at least need to be revised.

Some observers believe that the risks from this vaccine are magnified by giving three shots in one rather than individually. That idea deserves more attention. The usual reason conventional medicine prefers to give a lot of shots all at once is that they worry they won’t be able to get parents to come in more often. This is not a proper justification for exposing kids to unnecessary risks.

When too many vaccines are given within a short period of time, the body may experience an immune system overload, as discussed in J. Barthelow Classen’s evidence review of vaccinations published in the peer-reviewed journal Molecular and Genetic Medicine. In his review, Dr. Classen discusses the data supporting a relationship between an epidemic of inflammatory diseases and vaccine-induced immune system overstimulation, as well as the evidence linking immune overload with epidemics of diabetes (both type 1 and type 2) and obesity. Government officials simply ignore these legitimate concerns and keep adding more vaccinations all together at ever younger ages, as revealed by the CDC’s busy vaccine schedule.

Despite all this evidence, the government still refuses to comment on or conduct further research on the vaccine schedule or the ineffectiveness of the MMR vaccine for mumps. There’s no way to know why for sure, but one possible reason is that— after spending millions on a multiyear contract with Merck—they’re attempting to avoid another embarrassing repeat of the Tamiflu scandal, where the government spent $1.5 billion on flu treatments that were found to be no more effective than aspirin.

Of course, those who choose not to vaccinate their children are still the laughingstock of the mainstream media. Just this month, The Daily Show aired a scathing segment mocking parents who choose not to vaccinate.

Action Alert! Contact the Centers for Disease Control and ask them to do more research on mumps, the MMR shot, and the vaccine schedule.

MMR and Pertussis Vaccine Damage

CDC Says MMR And Pertussis Vaccines Can

Cause Permanent Brain Damage

By MB June 21, 2013

The CDC states on its web site that the MMR and pertussis vaccines can cause permanent brain damage.

They disclose this on their Possible Side-effects from Vaccines page in the Severe Problems category.

This confirms the medical textbook definition of a vaccine adverse reaction: Encephalitis (brain inflammation).

Many informed parents report their children had a vaccine adverse reaction that caused permanent brain damage. The CDC denies vaccines cause autism, while its own web site admits vaccines can cause permanent brain damage.

CBS news points out the US government has compensated many cases of ‘vaccine-related brain damage.’

The CDC is in the business of pushing vaccines, yet the brain damage vaccines can cause is admitted and disclosed right there before your eyes on the CDC web site. If a doctor, public health official or anybody else tells you vaccines are perfectly safe – they are either misinformed or lying. Tell them to read the CDC web site.

Supplementing with turmeric can completely reverse damage caused by fluoride

Turmeric shown to protect brain against fluoride poisoning

fluoride

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) The neurodegenerative effects of fluoride are well documented in the scientific literature, and yet this toxic byproduct of industrial manufacturing continues to get dumped into the water supplies of almost every major city in the U.S. without consent. And while it may take a little more time before a critical mass of folks finally wakes up and puts a stop to this mass poisoning of the public, there is a way you and your family can better avoid the toxic effects of fluoride today through proper nutrition.

Publishing their findings in a recent issue of Pharmacognosy Magazine, a research team out of India observed that regular consumption of turmeric, a spice commonly used in Indian and Asian cuisine, helps to protect the mammalian brain against fluoride poisoning. Having previously uncovered the pathways through which fluoride induces harmful neuro degenerative changes in the brain, the team from Mohanlal Sukhadia University found that turmeric both neutralizes existing fluoride and protects against additional fluoride.

Testing the effects of turmeric in mice, the researchers observed that curcumin, the most well-known nutritive compound in turmeric, produces powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity that protects against multiple forms of cell damage, including singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical damage. Curcumin also helps spur the production of glutathione, the body’s “master antioxidant” that studies have shown plays a primary role in guarding against oxidative stress.

Supplementing with turmeric can completely reverse damage caused by fluoride

Knowing that fluoride induces both neurotoxic and neurodegenerative effects on brain tissue, particularly that of the hippocampus and cerebral cortex, the team tested the effects of fluoride alone, fluoride in combination with turmeric, turmeric alone and a control on mice that were randomly divided into each of these four groups. All the mice consumed their respective regimens for 30 days before undergoing analysis.

At the end of the study period, it was observed that mice in the fluoride group, which were given 120 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride in water without curcumin, experienced significant increases in malondialdehyde (MDA) activity — MDA is a recognized marker of oxidative stress. Mice consuming the same amount of fluoride along with 30 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg), however, experienced a marked reduction in MDA, revealing the toxicity-mediating power of turmeric.

“[Fluoride] may cross the blood brain barrier, accumulate in mice hippocampal neuron cell bodies and initiates cascade of reactions which increases the oxidative stress that causes an increase in MDA content of brain tissue, which is an end product of LPO [lipid peroxidation],” wrote the authors.

“On the other hand, a distinctive decrease in MDA level was observed after [curcumin] treatment, compared to group treated with [fluoride]… [because] this phytochemical is capable of quenching oxygen free radicals such as superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals, which are important for the initiation of LPO.”

Fluoride is an ‘excitotoxin’ like MSG that causes brain neurons to die

Concerning the general toxicity of fluoride, the team is convinced, based on more than a decade of extensive research, that the chemical very clearly collects and accumulates in brain tissue. Similar to the way that monosodium glutamate (MSG) over-excites brain neurons and essentially kills them, fluoride likewise produces an excitotoxic effect that can have lasting health consequences.

“Fluoride (F) is probably the first inorganic ion which drew attention of the scientific world for its toxic effects and now the F toxicity through drinking water is well-recognized as a global problem,” explains the study. “Health effect reports on F exposure also include various cancers, adverse reproductive activities, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases.”
